None of us truly know what happened but if any of us have followed these journalists we know in our hearts this is an extreme sentence of a barbaric nature. To criticize their intentions is naive and ignorant. If they were in fact crossing the border it is not a justification for sentencing of twelve years. In any other country they would be removed and/or deported. North Korea is clearly an irrational country with unpredictable actions that includes a leader with no humanitarian intentions. I am disgusted by comments that insist they deserve or asked for this. We are living in a time where we depend on honest and fearless journalism. While they may have known the sensitive territory they were near, they do not deserves the treatment or sentence they received. I support their efforts and am truly sorry for Lisa, Euna and their families. Personally, I wish there was something I can do to other than pledge support This is a punishment not worth the crime. Two things must be worked out: (1) have the spotlight directed elsewhere; this will happen with time. (2) create the opportunity, excuse, to let them go; this is usually done through negotiations where both parties work at finding a plausible explanation for a resolution that will allow NK (in this case) to look good, and maybe obtain concessions or goods. The Chinese appear in the best position to conduct these negotiations - I am not a specialist, but is seems from here that the quicker this is no longer on the front pages, the better. (the event was not excessively published in Chinese newspapers). I do not think their lives is in danger & I do not think they will be mistreated, but I imagine that NK prisons may be a bit Spartan and deprived of comfort. The prospect of maybe two winters there is not something I would be looking for. Let's hope and pray that they are held together, it would be easier on them. Surely, you have much better things to do than get on the internet and call people "losers" for trying to seek the safety and return of two women who DO NOT deserve the sentencing they got today... unless you don't have better things to do then I suggest you look the word "Loser" up while looking in the mirror: the person who will stare back at you is the classic definition.
